Isn’t this the very similar thought that crosses your mind
when you hit the bed every night? Isn’t the feeling very similar to falling in
love with the same person every day? Isn’t it the one true free of cost medicine
for all your problems? Isn’t it your only me time in the entire 24 hours which
does not involve even your closest person? The sweet sleep time.
Sleep is a natural periodic state of rest for the mind and
the body, in which the eyes usually close and consciousness is completely or
partially lost, so that there is a decrease in bodily movement and
responsiveness to external stimuli. During sleep the brain in humans and other
mammals undergoes a characteristic cycle of brain-wave activity that includes
intervals of dreaming.
Sleep, like any other activity that we do, is important for
our physical and psychological wellbeing. Our dear little takes some rest
although the definition suggests that there are activities that keep happening.
Sleep is one activity that has a direct impact on your next morning and
throughout the day.
But what exactly happens when you are deprived of this sweet
time? A recently conducted study in Sweden suggests that sleep deprived people
“look sad, unhealthy and unattractive.” The researchers found that people also
think that these perceptions could influence the way in which people treat
those who are sleep deprived. Sleep deprived people are also known to develop
dark circles and the eyelids begin to hang. They have paler skin, more wrinkles
and droopy corners of the mouth. The eyes become red and swollen.
If you simply think of it, going to school or workplace with
a grumpy face may not be all without a reason then. Yes, morning blues are to
be blamed to the fullest but then, lack of sleep could be one too. Lack of
proper sleep makes you yawn at every word that you utter or not concentrate on
your work. You may also end up sleeping after lunch and it actually happens!
I love sleeping. Especially on the weekends and extended ones.
When I know I do not have to wake up and run around and start my day. While the
pattern of sleep has changed through phases like in school, I wished I could
sleep all the time, in college and during examinations, catching up with sleep
with not more than 3-4 hours in a day and then in office, going back to the
routine way, the love hasn’t lessened a bit. And there has been a time when the
doctors said I am not sleeping enough and that my good health will be back only
if I sleep for more than how much I do normally. I was ecstatic to hear the
news from the mother who always complained about me sleeping. It is also a
proven fact that a lean and mean body with a pretty face depends on your sleep
pattern as well. Sleeping on time and waking up on time with a fresh attitude
helps in maintaining a healthy body weight. So, this definitely becomes a
lifetime resolution for me!
PS: I also love
power naps. In the bus on the way to office or after lunch (at times and not
every day) and the best one, in flights (you actually can’t help but sleep
because all around people are sleeping to glory)!
